Students and staff from Calhoun Elementary Junior High School (CEJHS) are celebrating an exciting achievement after being recognized at the state level through the Illinois Reading Council.
Maeve Roth was selected as the winner of the 2026 Illinois Reading Council Static Cling Contest, earning top honors for her creative and eye-catching design. Her work stood out among submissions from across the state, showcasing both artistic talent and a strong love for reading.
In addition to Maeve’s first-place finish, Harper Klocke was recognized with an honorable mention, highlighting the strength and creativity of CEJHS students in the competition.
As part of her recognition, Maeve attended a special luncheon hosted by the Illinois Reading Council. During the event, she confidently introduced herself in front of a large audience of educators and authors. Maeve prepared and wrote her own introduction, representing CEJHS with poise and professionalism.
Attendees also had the unique opportunity to hear from acclaimed author Lesa Cline-Ransome, who delivered an engaging presentation. The experience concluded with a memorable moment as attendees had two books signed by the author, making the day even more special.
