🥚🔴⚫️🥚The PreK-2 wing had fun exploring just how strong eggs are this morning. We made predictions that they would hold less than 15 books, but store bought and farm fresh eggs both held just under 40 books. We had lots of gasps with each book added and hopefully some core memories made.🥚🔴⚫️🥚

Calhoun Schools Celebrate Student Athletic Achievements with Schoolwide Clap-Out

HARDIN, IL — Excitement filled the halls of Calhoun Elementary and Junior High School today as students and staff came together to celebrate outstanding athletic accomplishments from across the district.

In collaboration with Brussels Elementary and St. Norbert's Elementary, the school hosted a spirited “clap-out” to honor student-athletes for their hard work, determination, and success. During the celebration, students proudly paraded through the halls of CEJHS while their peers and teachers lined the corridors, cheering them on and recognizing their achievements.

Among those honored were the 5th grade boys basketball team, who recently claimed the championship title at the AJ Classic. Also recognized were the 7th and 8th grade girls volleyball teams for their impressive performances, each securing regional championships.

To make the day even sweeter, all students were treated to doughnuts as part of the celebration, adding to the festive atmosphere and sense of community pride.

School officials extended their gratitude to the teachers, staff, and parents whose continued support helps students succeed both on and off the court. Appreciation was also shared for the partnering schools that helped make the event possible by bringing their students together for the special occasion.

Today’s celebration served as a powerful reminder of the dedication and teamwork demonstrated by Calhoun’s student-athletes. Congratulations were extended to all students for their remarkable accomplishments and for representing their schools with pride.

Calhoun Elementary & Junior High Celebrates Read Across America Week

Calhoun Elementary and Junior High School recently celebrated Read Across America Week from March 2–6, 2026, with a variety of engaging activities designed to promote a love of reading among students.

Read Across America Week is a nationwide initiative that encourages children and adults alike to celebrate reading and literacy. Inspired by the birthday of beloved children’s author Dr. Seuss, the week highlights the importance of building strong reading habits in a fun and meaningful way.

Throughout the week, Calhoun Elementary and Junior High students participated in themed dress-up days, welcomed guest readers into classrooms, and enjoyed schoolwide D.E.A.R. (Drop Everything and Read) time. These activities created excitement around books and provided students with opportunities to explore new stories and genres.

Students also took part in a book-making contest, showcasing their creativity by writing and illustrating their own original stories. In addition, classes designed colorful bookmarks featuring Dr. Seuss-inspired themes to express their love of reading.

Winners of the bookmark contest were selected today and will receive rewards in recognition of their hard work, creativity, and artistic skills. The celebration was a great success, leaving students inspired and eager to continue reading long after the week’s events concluded.
